Whilst we’re urging those who want to celebrate to do so safely, this time of year can be scary for those who live alone and the most vulnerable in our communities. We know not everyone will want to be involved, so if you would prefer not to take part in trick or treating you can place a sign in your window to make people aware. You can download our version here: No Trick or Treat sign To help keep communities safe over the Halloween and Bonfire Night festivities, we are urging parents to speak to their children about their safety, always know where they are, and educate them on the dangers of fireworks. We know that some may use these events as an excuse for anti-social behaviour, but this will not be tolerated, and we will take robust action against those responsible. If you have any concerns about anti-social behaviour, you can report it to us by calling 101 or through Live Chat on our website. This is our safety advice for those who are planning to celebrate: - If you’re going trick or treating, make sure to go in a group or with a responsible adult and only visit areas that are well lit, don’t take shortcuts through gardens, alleyways or parks
- Only visit houses that are decorated and don’t knock if there is a sign saying ‘no trick or treat here’
- If you’re wearing a mask, ensure that you can see where you’re going and are aware of your surroundings
- Be aware of the law surrounding the appropriate use of fireworks; they can only be used by over 18s and only until midnight.
